Which Diamond Ring should I get her?

Based on an article from The Proposers which I mentioned earlier one of my blog posts I really kept thinking about it. There must be something true about being able to match the type of ring to a type of personality someone has.
I recently asked my friend John who lives in the UK what he thinks about it? And here is what he sent me.

Always get the right diamond ring for her

When all the questions and doubts about how, when and if, fade and you're finally sure that you found the right partner another doubt creeps up your mind. Will I be able to find the right ring for her? Which kind of engagement ring should I get? Will she like it?

Different people, different ways

It's known that nowadays it is not anymore only the future grooms' decision on what a ring should look like. However, if we think about it in a traditional way it is typically the man that buys a ring and it is also him that asks his future wife for her hand.

There are of course situations where both are looking out for many different type of rings and that fits their tastes and wishes. Surfing the web from the comfort of your home for rings became a fast, easy and modern way to learn what one' likes and what is on an absolutely no go.
Also, there might be times where the woman wants to decide and buy the ring just to make sure that it is the right one.
Nothing is unthinkable and all the above scenarios are possible. But no matter who buys the ring for whom. This post aims to make it easier when it comes to decide which type of ring one should buy for his or her partner.

Personality meets ring

See the following as a rough guideline on which type of engagement ring would match with the type of personality your partner has. This should in no way be taken on as the only way to choose a ring. But, I certainly hope that it might help your decision when thinking of your loved one. So, here we go. These are the different types of personalities matched to the different styles of engagement rings.

The Traditional One

You can't go wrong on this if you know that your partner loves the entire fairy tale types of weddings. You should look for a traditional round cut diamond ring in yellow or white gold which is elegant and timeless. This ring will match not only her personality but also her beautiful white wedding dress and gown which she'll probably wear on her wedding day.

The Dreamer

This type of person is very romantic an would adore an engagement ring that has a different shape and colour. Think about flowers, hearts and every other thing that represents symbols of love.

The Alternative

Traditional shaped rings are a no-go for people with this type of personality. They desire different shapes and different materials. By choosing something that's uncommon like a double diamond setting on the ring mirroring the two of you or maybe a design ring like the 'dancing lady' as seen below you will be on the winning side. This ring in a spiral design reflects the beauty of a modern sculpture.

The Hipster

She loves her ring to be modern but with a stylish touch from the past. Here I would consider a material like rose gold which is very much in trend and combine it with sleek modern design without leaving the classical diamond stones aside.

Everyone wants diamonds

So, there we go. That is how one could choose an engagement ring. Simply buy thinking about the type of personality the partner has. There is one thing that many 'soon to become brides' have in common. They usually all prefer engagement rings with a gemstone. Diamonds are the most common stones found on engagement rings but it isn't unusual that your partner might love a ring with a different gemstone like a sapphire or a ruby. In the end this should of course be your choice. Just wanted to mention that a gemstone is usually expected.
Of course there are couples that prefer not to wear rings at all or might choose only symbolic rings made out of wood or plastic.

The place and time to ask the question

After finally holding the ring in your hands the final step has to be thought through. When and where should I asked her? Even if you might think that this is almost an impossible task to accomplish let me assure you; It might be easier than you think. When it comes to the timing think of special holidays like Valentine's Day or her birthday maybe one of the winter or summer holidays? When it comes to the place it is also good to decide based on her or his personality. If she is a romantic person she might like to hear your question at the place where you very first met. As a traditional type of girl one would love to see you knee down in front of her during a family reunion...

Wedding Proposal at New Year's Eve?

Big excitement on my side because I am going to ask my girlfriend to marry me on New Year's eve.

I've already bought a diamond engagement ring months ago online and I kept staring at it every other day.

Mary Me New Year's wedding proposal with a diamond ring

So, now since the last hours are approaching pretty fast I am starting to doubt myself. Is it even a good idea? Did I think it through?
Let me explain it so you can see where my worries come from. The only plan that I could come up with was by thinking of movies.

New Year's Eve wedding proposal

From what I have watched so far, dropping the ring in a glass of champagne was the most romantic and exciting. At midnight when we kiss and drink to welcome the New Year's she will find it in her glass and in front of her she well see me kneeling down and popping the question. I think that is pretty romantic for a very practical guy like me, or isn't it?

But what if it ends like in that Woody Allen movie from the 90's and she accidentally swallows the ring? What if we end up at the hospital trying to locate for the rest of that night that ring somewhere between her stomach and her rectum?

You see, all these wonderful creepy thoughts are crossing my mind. In addition to that I fear that she might not find it romantic at all and does not even expect me to ask in the first place.

Well, then I might just have to take the loss, I guess. Return the ring or sell it on Ebay and put the pieces of my shattered heart bit by bit together. It's not that I've bought a ten million dollar diamond ring but it also will leave me with a dent in my pocket besides my broken heart.

You might think I am exaggerating but exactly a year ago my friend got turned down by his girlfriend when he ask her to marry him.
So, here we go. Will everything go well? I don't know...

Will she say yes. Hopefully she will.

Is it a great idea to ask your girlfriend to marry you on New Year Eve?

I start having my doubts...

Every Diamond Ring has a Girl Type

There is a great wedding planner that wrote an interesting article about which design types of diamond engagement rings matches a certain style of girl.

The Proposers, go from the girly girl type of women that loves a ring with diamonds set in a shape of a heart to the traditional women that would prefer a traditional round diamond cut ring. I have to say that this is indeed quite a helpful guide for men if they do not have a clue what to buy for their girlfriend. Congratulations to The Proposers for thinking of this.

This style of diamond ring is preferred by mor traditional girls according to the Proposers.

Diamonds and Morganite

Well, today it was the first time I have heard of the combination diamonds and morgenite. I was reading Phoebe's blog "So you are getting married" and she showed off her new ring which is a golden ring wiht morganite and a diamond.
Looks really cool. The diamond gets a slight peachy colour and make it very elegant.

Here is Phoebes's blog and her article;

I just read on Wikipedia that Morganite is a gemstone known a pink beryl.
